The last major of the Call of Duty League has finally come to an end. And now we head towards the playoffs. The Major V delivered highly entertaining competitions, with its fair share of close matches and historic comebacks. Now only eight teams are left and are scheduled to compete in the playoffs that will take place from 19th to 22nd August.
The teams will travel to the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California, in the hopes of lifting the trophy. But before we head to the matchups, we will look at some of the top contenders for the title. We will give a comprehensive analysis of three of the top teams that you should keep an eye on as we wait for the finale of the second CDL season:
Atlanta Faze is labeled as the strongest team in the CDL playoffs and is the favorite to lift the trophy. Yet there are still some concerns as the team recently finished at eighth place in the Major Five after a highly unexpected defeat to Seattle Surge. If FaZe shows similar performance in the playoffs then we may very well see the disbandment of the roster with three MVP candidates.
We should expect the MVP trio of McArthur “Cellium” Jovel, Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris, and Chris “Simp” Lehr to shine on the big stage. They would have surely learned a lot from the recent failure and should come out all guns blazing in the 2021 season playoffs.
Toronto attained elite status after their phenomenal performance in Major II. Where they took down Atlanta Faze in the grand finale. And seeing their remarkable results since then, it is fair to say that Ultra has been one of the most consistent teams and very a not surprised to see them as one of the favorites to be crowned the champion. They have taken down FaZe on more than one occasion and can defeat them again and lift the title.
Toronto, and Atlanta, are currently tied for the best win record in SnD mode with 39 victories each. Ultra hosts an 18-6 on Express and Raid, so they are not going down easy, no matter which team they face in the playoffs.
After witnessing a fair share of troubles in the early days of the CDL, Dallas rose from the depths after Reece “Vivid” Drost finally found his way into the competitive landscape. Empire has displayed great performances as they finished the Major IV at 2nd place and got a 4th place finish, in the Major V. The reigning champions are a force to be reckoned with when they are playing as a team, yet seem to struggle in making individual plays. One interesting fact is that Dallas has defeated every single team in the 2021 season except for FaZe. So it will be interesting to see if they could change this statistic if the two teams meet in the playoffs.
