Why Was Dota 2 Pro Circuit Introduced?

The Dota 2 Pro Circuit replaced Valve’s former Dota Major Championship series that took place in 2015 and 2016. The primary reason behind the introduction of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit was the fact that the reputation of the Dota Major Championship series was tarnished by the unpredictable and non-transparent nature of handing out international invitations.

Methodology Used For Determining The Score

Valve adopted a unique way of determining the score of the team for the first season of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit. The method used was that the team’s score was determined by the points of the team’s top three players and in case the players switched their teams during the season, the score was also shifted to the team.

For the second season, a large number of adjustments were made to the gameplay and its rules were changed. All Major and Minor events thereafter took place in pairs. Valve decided to go with the methodology of reducing the number of direct invites from 22 to 10.

Format Of Dota 2 Pro Circuit

The format of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit is that the Major is a sponsored event of Dota 2 in which 2 teams participate from North America, South America, Southeast Asia, and Europe.

Prize Money For Winners

The Major carries prize money of $500,000 and concludes with LAN finals. The Minors have a prize pool money that amounted to $150,000 and thus are less lucrative for the teams participating in the gameplay.

Qualifying Points

Each team is awarded Qualifying Points based on their performance in the match. The primary benefit of this point system is that they are visible to everone and thus no objection can be raised on the methodology adopted for the Dota 2 Pro Circuit’s scoring.

Final Verdict

The Dota 2 Pro Circuit is loved by players from around the world as it provides them the opportunity to not only compete at an international platform but to also win huge sums of prize money.
